Maja decided to spend the summer of 2018 in Spain. We bring you her impressions in the following article.
I heard about this cultural exchange program while attending English classes at CAR in Banja Luka. I loved the idea of living in a Spanish family and exploring Spanish culture that way. I decided to apply and now I can say that it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
I was lucky to meet an amazing family who was always there for me and who tried to make me feel at home. I was thrilled with Spanish people in general, they are so kind and helpful. Spain is a beautiful country which offers a lot of possibilities. I lived in the beautiful city of Madrid. It’s so well-connected, you can easily travel anywhere you like from there. It was easy to get in touch with other candidates, make new friends and spend quality time exploring both the city and the country. I truly enjoyed Spain, its breathtaking beauty, culture and food. Paella soon became one of my favorite dishes and I can’t wait to make my first natillas. The time I spent with the kids was a unique experience. I have to admit that sometimes it wasn’t easy, but when you realize how much you get from it, the feeling is amazing. We can learn a lot from kids and also have a lot of fun with them.
I would like to point out that everyday communication with the people from CAR meant a lot to me, as well as their patience and constant support.
This cultural exchange program is the best opportunity to learn about the culture of the country you are visiting, to learn or improve the language you like, or to improve your English. Also, you can make new friends from around the world. And most importantly, you can grow as a person and move your own boundaries. If you love kids, travelling and challenges, you will love it!
